Prayer Walk

Today we went on a prayer walk around the city.  We learned more about the history of the country and the city we are in.  We learned specific ways to pray for the people who live here, especially that they will see truth and love.  We also saw a wide variety of architecture and art.  Below is a photo of the team as we began our walk today.

This will probably be our last post until we are home as we will be traveling and may not have internet access.  Please pray for ministry opportunities as we complete our time here.  Thank you for your continued prayers!

Counting Down the Last Days

We are so thankful for all of your prayers, they are working!  So far, everything has gone so smoothly!  As we finish up our time at the school, we will be sad to go.  The kids have grown on our hearts and we will miss them! Tomorrow is our last day of VBS and our last day with the kids.  We will teach our last lesson, do our last craft, sing our last songs and hand out our last pieces of candy.

We have so enjoyed working with the teachers at the school.  Below is a photo of all the teachers and the team.  Maggie and Kathryn taught professional  development classes about classroom management, parent volunteers, classroom set up and small group instruction. It was well received by all.  The teachers have also enjoyed speaking one on one for planning for the upcoming school year and additional advice.

The team has also been able to help organize the school s library.  The library is being divided between the new and old school.  Praise the Lord a new location has been found for the primary school.  Pray for finalization of the new school s final contract and all logistics go smoothly.

Halfway Point

We have completed the first four days of English Camp.  We have two sessions of camp each day.  The first session is mainly English speakers, where as the second group is mainly native speakers which is keeping us on our toes.  We can not wait for you to hear them sing in their native language! Below is a picture of one of the kids favorite crafts, a flower tissue paper craft.

The students love listening to our stories each day.  They love helping us to tell the stories too!  Here one of the students is helping us draw what would be found in a house.

Summer Camp

We have completed three days of VBS.  There have been 25 children attending so far.  We have taught lessons, sung songs, played games and done crafts.  The kids really enjoy singing, both in English and their native language.  Please continue to pray for our team, the children, the teachers, and the language barrier we have.  As promised, here are a few pictures of activities we have done.

Team Service Project

Our team decided to spend a Saturday morning together serving the homeless in town by providing breakfast.  We worked with the Burrito Bikers to make it happen.  Together, we were able to provide fresh fruit, doughnuts, hot coffee, and bottled water to about 60 people.  We all had a great time!

(L to R) Susan, Maggie, Anastasia, Gabrielle, and Kathryn

2014 East Asia Team

(L to R) Kathryn C., Gabrielle P., Anastasia P., Margaret D., and Susan H.

The team will be involved in a one-week English camp and Vacation Bible School for preschool and elementary-aged children. They will also have the chance to serve families in the local house churches as well as outreach to local families who do not yet know Christ. There will be opportunities to meet with families, teachers and young professionals to do training and coaching in the trip participants’ fields of expertise (teaching, business, sports, etc). And there is a potential opportunity to help out at a shelter run for children whose moms are red light workers.
